As elegant and natural as the surface of a wooden box is, depending on the application, it may also be desirable to stain the wooden box in color or to paint it colorless/colored in order to achieve a certain effect. In principle, boxes can only be surface-treated on the outside or completely. In the high-priced wine segment, wine crates are often stained and rarely painted. Almost every type and species of wood can be stained. Also, the type of lid and corner connection for pickling are rather secondary. However, a high-quality finish limits the choice of construction of the wooden box somewhat. Solid woods are not very suitable for this, but the fine surface of beech and poplar plywood shows an even, even finish. Wooden crates with sliding lids and/or dovetailed corner joints are also not very compatible with painting.
